Emotionally Focused Therapy for Partners Connects Hearts and Restores Relationships
Secure Connection
Greater Intimacy
Increased Fulfillment
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a short-term, experiential therapy that cultivates secure attachment in
relationships. Through various techniques and exercises, EFT seeks to help couples identify and express their emotions openly and to create a safe, secure bond. It also helps partners understand patterns of interaction that are blocking a deeper connection and helps them create new ways of connecting with and understanding each other.
What makes this evidence-based therapy so effective?
Phase One
De-escalation - Couples in distress get pulled into inflexible defensive stances and the same emotion drenched argument over and over. The goal is to understand the pattern of that argument so you can see it coming - and get out of its way.
Phase Two
Restructuring - Partners soften their defensive positions. They begin to heed their yearning for connection, and express their deeper emotions, needs, and desires in healthier, more effective ways. Each sees their partner through friendlier eyes.
Phase Three
Integration - The partners write a new relationship story together. They plan ways to keep the momentum of their positive changes going. If their movements are like a dance, their attuned emotions are like harmonious music.
